Matter of Balance Class 6/19 - 8/4
The Matter of Balance program begins June 16, 2026, and will meet from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. The Greer Housing Authority remains committed to providing programs, resources, and events that enhance the quality of life for our residents while fostering a strong sense of community.

Matter of Balance
When: June 16 - August 4 (8 Weeks)
Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM (2 Hours each session)
A matter of Balance is an evidence-based program designed to help older adults manage their fear of falling by viewing falls as controllable.
Classes can be done weekly, or monthly and usually last about two hours each.
Module One - Introduction and Glimpse of What's to Come
- Identifying helpful vs. unhelpful beliefs about falling
- Understanding the fear of falling's impact
Module Two - Exploring Thoughts and Concerns About Falling
- Cognitive restructuring, challenging fears, problem-solving and building confidence
Module Three - Building Physical Confidence
- Introduction to exercises, shifting mindset and practical skills
Module Four - Assertiveness and Fall Prevention
- Setting realistic goals for increasing physical activity levels
Module Five - Managing Concerns about Falling
- Connecting worries about falling with real, manageable actions to feel more confident and secure
Module Six - Recognizing "Fall-ty" Habits
- Identifying unhelpful behaviors and habits, and developing new, more helpful ones
Module Seven - Recognizing Fall Hazards in the Home
- Spotting potential dangers and applying strategies to eliminate them
Module Eight - Review and Reinforce
- Creating a personal Plan to maintain balance and activity
